Artist Statement
My artwork is inspired by the awe and majesty of the natural world, a personal response to the forces that shapes our planet. Specifically it is the formation of dramatic skies and dynamic weather systems that has dominated my work. Current work specifically focuses on how we respond, interrupt and attempt to visualise the wind patterns that surround us and shape our world.
The manner in which I work is representative of the very thing that inspires me. I try not to make too many laboured decisions, relying on intuition and feeling more than anything else. I work in Acrylic as well as Oil and Cold Wax, using palette knives, squeegees and brushes, as well as numerous other mark-making tools. My work involves repeatedly forming layer after layer of paint, intermittently using several invasive techniques to create erosion and marks, before discovering the final image.
I want my artwork to depict nature’s energy and reflect emotion, to convey something of the feeling that I experience, to the onlooker. I hope that my artwork will resonate with others and invoke something of the awe and wonder that sparked within me.
I have paintings in private collections in the UK, US, Canada and Finland. For the past four years I have had pieces hung at The Atkinson Gallery, Millfield.
